SODIUM PUMP BETA SUBUNIT

This is the smaller beta subunit component of the Na/K ATPase.
Although it is thought to play no direct role in the translocation
of ions accross the membrane or the catalysis of ATP, Drs. Farley
and Eakle et al, here in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics,
showed that substitution of the gastic H/K ATPase beta subunit altered
ouabain binding and ATPase enzyme activity (J. Biol. Chem. 269(9):6550;1994),
suggesting that the beta subunit has important conformational influence
on the catalytic alpha subunit.

Hey Curt! Ya got something else you want me to put here?
