Cesium-137 kissin' cousin of rubidium-86.. deposition around
Chornobyl.
I wike NEN Dupont's widdle informational sheet.
well.. I guess it does the job.. sometimes I wish
It was more clear about the calibrate time
It gives me Specific Activity (A) say... 7.149514mCi/mg for
today's
shipment (calibrate date 10 Jan 01).
Oh man.. I gots to gets dat Rb/K/Cotransport data..
the literature search is SOMEWHERE in SOME big pile
oopsie.. i fergot.. i don't wike
millicurries much..
i perfer MegaBiquerels, 'cause a Biquerel is a dpm.
dat's how the Scintillation counter spits
it out.
dis shipment.. 264.53203 MBq/mg
funny thing about the reports..
6 decimal places.. they say there's EXACTLY 10.00000mCi/mL
EVERY shipment.. EXACTLY 370.000000MBq/mL
EXACTLY 0.100000mL EVERY shipment.. but then the specific
activity is quazzy to the 6th decimal place.
oh well.. whatever floats their boat, but.. i don't
know.. it just doesn't install super duper confidence.
i always measure it, and i always get like 90-92
m
L..
i figger the rest is gone.. but i don't know if
MY pippetteman didn't suck it up.. or it is left
in THEIR pipetter.. prolly i should split the
difference.. oh well.. so i add like 208-210 accordingly
to get it to 300
m
L
theoretically..
sometimes the freek has sat around so consarnt.. the
half life is only what.. 18.6 days..
so in cases where the cells have been loafing for a couple
weeks or more..
the consarnt rubidium is all decayed.
i guess i did that just a few months ago. err.. the time
before when i got the shipment.
so i gots lotus set up to handle this.. the third
'100
m
L' is always like 90-92
m
L agin..
oh i ferget.. another dilution.. the first two today
DID get exactly 100
m
L of the rubidium stuff..
also 900
m
L more of PBS (that is what i diluted)
the original 92
m
L with the 208
m
L say as well..
so the foyst two 100
m
L (i guess i have diluted
different
inna past..)
git 900
m
L.. then the last has 92
m
L so it gets maybe
832
m
L. but i sort of trip on this one.. lotus spit
out 832.32
m
L so that is what i shot fer.
now this only happens what.. once every two weeks.. then
i gots mah data.. an ahm set.. the write-up has
a blank today inna spot where it might say specific
activity and what do i do? ionic concentration mg/mL.
okay.. this is the deal. dick can drive u quazzy sometimes.
i'm shellshocked. nothing is ever perfect enough.
it never stops.. WHAT IS THE PHILOSOPHICAL MEANING
of the scintillation counter??
so consarnt.. u gots to control control control..
there IS NO REALITY without controls.
an aside.. i LOVE MY LEAD BRICKS.. solutions can be
viscous.. but lead is DENSE!!! YYEEHHAAAUUGGHHH!!
ahem.. ::cough:: unnggkkk.. yes.. excuse me.. ::kaff::
so anyhows.. i am going to stay inna concrete here..
i am obviously in a concrete mood.
my January 10, 2001 shipment here.. i corrected the
264.53203MBq/mL specific Activity with the 99.9% purity
sheet.. will the hot Cesium contamination be active in
the bumetanide (a.k.a. Bumex loop diuretic) sensitive
are these ideas philosophically sound??...
is any of this relevant to significant error?
i always figger
that the proper course is to get the precision far beyond,
and after the fact truncate and round appropriately.
okay.. using the 'PRECISE' value of 370.000000MBq/mL
and
the dilutions i ramble about above.. 95.92
m
L recovered..
(where'd the freek 4.08????
m
L extra go?? ya GOTS ME!!
i assume it is in the aether
the heck outs mah 'perment.
like i said..
i added 204.18
m
L Phosphate Buffered Saline (PBS) to theoretically get
precisely 300
m
L
of a solution containing the ENTIRE 37MBq shipment.
well.. i assume i was gypped by that mysterious
1.5096MBq amount (4.08????
m
L of a 370.000000MBq/mL solution)
so anyway.. yeah.. ahum.. gypped and to the
deficient 95.92
m
L i added 204.18
m
L PBS,
then after vortexing took exactly 100
m
L each of that and put it in aliquot storage tubes "A" and "B"
aliquot tube "C" i managed to salvage 92.48
m
L, and using the Lotus spreadsheet that gave me the
832.32
m
L..
did i say this already? anyway.. THEORETICALLY hence
this solution would be the same as
"A" and "B." utilizing physical unit algebra i get
264.79683MBq/mg and 4.4706084
m
g/mL, after all those
dilutions.
